Seriously what is a Bulletin Board System?
A bulletin board system, or BBS, is a computer system running software that allows users to connect and log into the system using a terminal program. Once logged in, a user can perform functions such as uploading and downloading software and data, reading news and bulletins, and exchanging messages with other users, either through email, public message boards, and sometimes via direct chatting. Many BBSes also offer on-line games, in which users can compete with each other, and BBSes with multiple phone lines often provide chat rooms, allowing users to interact with each other. - This snippet was taken from the Wikipedia entry about bulletin board systems. Its really worth a read for a good history lesson.

How many users can connect at one time?
We are glad you asked, see back in the day you would be lucky to be able to connect to a system that had maybe 2 phone lines or sometimes 4... well thanks to telnet and ssh connectivity we have setup access for 10 nodes. This means we can support 10 concurrent people at any time directly connected to the server.

Does NET247 BBS have Dialup Access?

We have been trying to get permission to put an additional copper line at the office however due to the NBN roll out this is proving to be a challange. So stay tuned... we as much as you want to provide this service for the ultimate classic experience.
Navigating The BBS
Once you have connected using the BBS requires only your keyboard. Yes you read that right, KEYBOARD. There is no mouse interaction what so ever... To get around the system is simple, each menu has a highlighted character that corresponds to a character on your keyboard.
For example in the main menu to access the online programs (BBS DOOR GAMES) you will see [O]nline Programs displayed, this red O is a highlighted queue that by pressing "O" on your keyboard a new menu will appear. In this case it will show you the Online Programs. The entire system is based on this color coded combination to make navigation simple. So just look for the highlighted characters to navigate around the system.
Is there a chatroom?
Yes, we offer a multi-node chatroom which lets all users who are directly connected to the system chat with one another in real-time.
Is there a private chat?
Yes, you can have a split screen real-time chat with other users who are online from the chat menu.
Is there a internet chatroom?
Yes, you can connect to our IRC server from a terminal session with the bulletin board system. Additionally, you can connect to our IRC server directly using any standard IRC client. For more information on our IRC server please visit https://www.net247.com.au/irc/.
Downloading from the BBS
If you are using a program that supports downloads (Z-Modem or Y-Modem protocol) then you can browse our file library and download any files you find of interest. The process for downloading varies between connection methods. Downloading a file using the Flash/Websockets connection method requires you to select a file for download and then right click on the applet and select the download option. This will then tell the server to send the file and you will be able to save it to your desktop.
Uploading files to the BBS
This can also be done in the same mannor as downloading however you select the UPLOAD option in the File Archives and then right click the applet to upload a file.
